Fritz Uhl - 1928-2001, Austrian tenor. He started his career at Graz Opera, later performing in Vienna, Munich, Covent Garden, Salzburg and Bayreuth. At first he sang lyric roles including Gounod's Faust, Erik and Loge, but soon moved into heldentenor roles such as Tristan, Siegmund, Walther, Florestan and Herod. He is perhap best known as the excellent Tristan opposite Birgit Nilsson's Isolde in the Solti recording of the Wagner opera - 4 x 6 inches (10 x 15 cm) autographed photo showing him as Siegmund at Bayreuth in 1961. £25

Carol Vaness - born 1952, American soprano (initially a mezzo-soprano she retrained early on) who gained fame in Mozart roles such as Fiordiligi, Elektra (Idomeneo) and Donna Anna. In 1984 she made her Met debut as Armida (Rinaldo). More recently she has sung more dramatic roles such as Norma, Violetta, both Verdi Leonoras, Tosca and Tatiana - 4 x 5.5 inches (10 x 14 cm) autographed photo, nicely signed in firm blue biro. £20     

     

 

  

  

  

  
 

Julia Varady - born 1941, Hungarian-born German soprano, widow of the late baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. She sang at most of the world's major opera houses including the ROH Covent Garden, The Met, La Scala Milan and Vienna Staatsoper. Her large repertoire included roles by Mozart, Verdi, Puccini and Richard Strauss, including Arabella, Violetta, Tatiana and Fiorgiligi, plus the Wagner roles of Eva and Senta - 5.5 x 3.5 inches (14 x 9 cm) round-cornered autographed white card (black edge-lines do not appear on item!), with small photo snipped from magazine , signed: "sincerely yours, Julia Varady". £12   

 

 

 

 

  

 

Ramon Vargas - born 1960, Mexican tenor, a pupil of legendary tenor Alfredo Kraus. He made his Met debut as Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor in 1992, and his Scala debut in 1993 as Fenton in Falstaff under Muti. At the ROH Covent Garden he has sung the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto, Rodolfo in La Boheme and Alfredo in La Traviata, and is a great favourite at the Vienna State Opera where he has sung many of the lyric and spinto roles including Werther - 4 x 6 inches (10 x 15 cm) autographed photo showing him as Edgardo at Theatro di San Carlo, signed "Ramon Vargas '93" in gold ink. £20

Shirley Verrett - 1931-2010, American mezzo-soprano, later soprano, with a glorious voice which she used with great artistry and intelligence. She made her New York City Opera debut in1964 as Carmen, the role which she first sang at La Scala in 1966, and at  the Metropolitan Opera in 1968. She made her Covent Garden debut in 1966 as Ulrica, followed by her trademark Carmen in 1977 - 3.75 x 5.5 inches (9.5 x 14 cm) autographed photo, signed "S. Verrett" in red ink. £20

Frederica Von Stade - born 1945, American mezzo-soprano who made her Met debut in 1970 as Third Boy, returning for Suzuki, Lola and Nicklausse. She made her Covent Garden debut as Rosina in 1975, and she has sung the roles for which she has become famous, Octavian, Chenerentola, Charlotte, Cherubino, Melisande and Hansel, in many of the world's major opera houses, and has made numerous recordings - 6 x 9.5 inches (15 x 24 cm) large autographed photo, signed: "To Kenneth Dyer, with very happy wishes for 1979, Frederica von Stade". Included with photo is a handwritten letter from Frederica Von Stade to Kenneth Dyer on writing paper from Bristol Hotel, dated 26 December 1978. £30

Claire Watson - 1927-1986, American soprano who studied with Elizabeth Schumann and made her debut at Graz in 1951 as Desdemona, making her debut at ROH Covent Garden in 1958 as the Marschallin. Bernd Weikl - born 1942, Austrian baritone, who sang Melot at Salzberg in 1971, and made his Bayreuth debut in 1972 as Wolfram, subsequently returning for Amfortas, The Herald and Hans Sachs. In 1975 he made his Covent Garden debut as Rossini's Figaro in 1975, and in 1977 his Met debut as Wolfram. Otto Wiener - 1911-2000, Austrian baritone; initially a concert singer, he made his operatic debut as Boccanegra at Graz. He made his Bayreuth debut in 1957 as Hans Sachs, returning as Gunther, Wotan/Wanderer and the Dutchman; at Glyndebourne he played La Roche in Capriccio. Other operatic roles included Faninal (Der Rosenkavalier), Wotan (Rheingold) and Ottavio (Coronation of Poppea), all of which he recorded, as well as solos in Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and Missa Solemnis, and Brahms' German Requiem  - 3.5 x 5.5 inches (9 x 1q4 cm) autographed Fayer photo, showing him as Sarastro in Die Zauberflote at Vienna Staatsoper. £40

Willard White -born 1946 Jamaican bass; at ROH Covent Garden he has sung Klingsor, Fafner, Timur and Pizarro. A superb actor, he has played Shakespeare's Othello in the theatre - 4 x 6 inches (10 x 15 cm) autographed photo showing him as Tchelio in L'Amour des Trois Oranges, Amsterdam 2005, signed: "all the very best, Willard White". £18

Herman Wiedemann - 1879-1944. German baritone; in 1912 he took part in the première of Ferruccio Busoni's Die Brautwahl in Hamburg, and was a member of the Vienna Hofoper from 1916 (singing in the German-language première of Jenůfa in 1918) and appeared at Salzburg until 1941, notably as Faninal, and as Beckmesser in the performances of Die Meistersinger conducted by Arturo Toscanini in 1937. Among his many roles in major opera houses in Germany and Italy he was a noted Guglielmo and Alberich.His Covent Garden appearances were in 1913 as Faninal, in the London première of Der Rosenkavalier, and in 1938 as Beckmesser - 3 x 5 inches (8 x 13 cm) autographed photo: the item is autographed by him, and has an inscription in German saying that the photo shows him as Beckmesser in Vienna, and is dated 1927. £55

 

 

 

 

      

Harold Williams - 1893-1976: Australian baritone with a career spent mostly in Britain on the concert platform as an oratorio soloist in works such as Elijah, The Kingdom, The Dream of Gerontius. He sang principal roles at the ROH Covent Garden including Tonio in Pagliacci, Iago and Wolfram - 3.5 x 5.5 inches (9 x 14 cm) autographed postcard in excellent condition, showing him as Hiawatha, nicely signed by him in black ink. £20

She sang with many of the world's major opera companies, including Berio's Un Re in Ascolta at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. Other roles in her repertoire included Gilda, Zerbinetta, Mozart's Susanna and Gounod's Juliette. Giorgio Zancanaro - born 1939, Italian baritone with a big voice and a good top, with a wide repertoire, specialising in Verdi roles such as Rigoletto, Posa, Iago, Monfort, and verismo roles such as Scarpia and Gerard. His Renato at the Metropolitan Opera was incomparable, as was his Di Luna at ROH Covent Garden - 4 x 6 inches (10.5 x 15 cm) autographed photo, signed by him in silver ink: a lovely clear autograph. £40
